Week 7: Project Based Learning In eLearning
The article from eLearning Industry, they state “put students in charge of their learning process” as tip number three out of four in designing project based learning.
As educators, especially in a new age of technology and classrooms becoming more diverse each year, we need to allow students the freedom to explore passions and give them the opportunity to lead assignments whenever we are able to. This allows them autonomy over their own work as opposed to the lack of freedom I know I experienced throughout school.
This opportunity will help us learn more about our students, connect with them in many ways, and gain trust between us because they will know we are truly invested in giving them opportunities to dig into and explore things that matter to them.
Design Unit plan
In the Design Unit plan, we are expected to choose a standard from Math or Science Standards of excellence and we are given the opportunity to be in charge of our learning process just as the tip suggests… minus a few criteria that must be met and meant to guide us along. We are given the choice to work in small groups or individually if we would like which caters to our different work and learning styles.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the expectations within the need of the opportunity provided to these students. Also, leading assignments is a good way for the students to connect.
Great points about the connections between the PBL content from class this week and the Design Process Unit Plan we will eventually design! It is my sincere hope that what you design would put elementary learners in the 'drivers seat' as much as possible, and digital technologies can really help mediate that process in a transformative way.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is always important to give students choices. They take ownership of their learning and take the assignments seriously! And teachers should try more to get to know each student sincerely even though it takes time, because they know whether you truely care or not.

ReplyDeleteYou always word things so well! But, I do agree that we should give students their freedom. This is the best way for them to learn and understand their assignments. It allows them to grow and also be able to share their ides with other students. Whether they are working together or presenting a project.
